Review #919; Rum #280: Rest and Be Thankful Monymusk 21yr (2000)

Rest and Be Thankful Monymusk 21yr (2000)

This single cask of Jamaican Rum comes to us from the independent bottlers at Rest and Be Thankful. This rum was distilled from Molasses on a pot still, is of the MBK mark which has an ester count of 70-80 gr/hLAA. This rum was put into an oak cask and aged for 21 years in a combination of European and Tropical ageing. It was then bottled at cask strength with no additives.

ABV: 61.7%

Nose: Rubber Eraser, Pencil Shavings, banana, oak spice, toasted coconut

Palate: Medium mouthfeel, Pencil Shavings, Rubber Eraser, Oak Spice, toasted coconut, banana

Finish: Medium length finish, Pencil Shavings, toasted coconut, banana, black pepper, tannins

Rating: 4/10

Faint hints of Jamaican rum peek through. Too much pencil shavings and oak for me. Too much time in the cask maybe. For the price I expect more.
