Clairin Vieux Sajous Ex-Caroni casks 2017 5yr

This is a limited release of Haitian Rum produced at the Chelo distillery and bottled by The Spirit of Haiti. This cane juice was distilled on a pot still and aged for 5 years in an ex-Caroni rum cask before being bottled at cask strength with no additives.

ABV: 52.14%

Nose: Industrial, faint hydraulic fluid, bine, olives, orange peel, pepper

Palate: Medium oily mouthfeel, Olive, Brine, hydraulic fluid, orange peel, peppery, lemon zest

Finish: Medium length finish, Brine, Olives, hydraulic fluid, orange peel, lemon zest

Rating: 7/10

A great release. Heavy on the caroni influence which is nice. However, I feel 5 years in an active cask has covered up the base flavor of this rum. But, it’s a nice vehicle for the Caroni flavor and is enjoyable to drink.
