El Dorado 16yr 2006 Astor Select

Review #1081; Rum #409

This is a bottling of rum done for Astor Wine and Spirits located in New York City. This rum is a blend of column and pot still rums from Demerara Distillers Limited located in Guyana. These molasses rums are a blend of the French Savalle Still, the Port Mourant Double Wooden Vat Still, and the Diamon Coffey still. The rum was aged for 16  years in Guyana before being bottled.

This is an excellent expression that Astor has selected. Well balanced, full of flavor, great mouth feel. The fruits and spices really pop and the good age is shown in some savory oak and dark chocolate. It edges out the Green Zone selection for me but this really shows the high quality of rum that DDL can put out.
