Beenleigh 16 Year (2007) Raising Glasses “Yowie” Single Cask

Review #1037; Rum #365

I was sent this sample by Raising Glasses and asked to try it

This rum comes to us from Beenleigh distillery located in Eagleby Queensland, Australia. This rum was fermented with the S. Pombe yeast, distilled from molasses on a Pot and Column still. It was then aged for 11 years in Australia before being shipped to the UK to age for another 5 years in the United Kingdom. It was then bottled at cask strength with no additives.

ABV: 68.3%

Nose: Pear skin, over-ripe blueberry, Apple, Minerality, Mint

Palate: Thick oily mouthfeel, Pear Skin, Apple, Minerality, cinnamon, black tea, lemon zest, nutmeg, Mint

Finish: Long finish, Minerality, Pear Skin, Apple, Cinnamon, Black Tea, Allspice, Mint

Rating: 8/10

This is quite tasty. Its up there with the Single Cask nation Beenleigh, but I like it more than that one. Minerality, fruits, spices, and a nice oak structure make for a complex and delicious Australian rum. It drinks below proof, but I would hope it takes water well (I only have an ounce to work with so not adding much myself). Some great rum coming from Australia and I hope to try more of it in the future.
