Review #291; Mezcal #13: Illegal Mezcal Joven

This is a widely available Mezcal offering, this is an espadin that is crushed and fermented in oak vats. It is then double distilled in small copper stills. ABV: 40% Nose: Slight citrus sweetness, pepper, spice, Palate: Thinnish mouthfeel, light smoke. Slight citrus sweetness, black pepper, slight spice, minerally. Finish: Short, slight earthiness, light smoke, citrus, vanilla, mineraly. Rating: 4/10

I wrote these notes blind, and then was revealed the bottle afterward, so keep that in mind. ABV: 40% Nose: Musty, sawdust, Vanilla, oak, astringent. Palate: Thin, watery mouthfeel, Sawdust, oak spice, vanilla. Finish: Medium length finish, slight ash, peat. Rating: 3/10 Guess: This is either an uninspired Scotland single malt, or a poor Texas single malt. Overall it’s actively bad.
