Review #286; American Whiskey #7: Barrell Dovetail

This is Batch 1 of an interesting blend from Barrell, where they took 10 year old whiskey from Indiana, 11 year old bourbon from Tennessee. They then stuck the Indiana whiskey in cabernet barrels, while some of the Tennesee was finished in rum casks and some was finished in port pipes. They then blended all of these together to create dovetail. I love a nice finished scotch, so let’s see how this experiment turned out.

ABV: 61.45%

Nose: Burnt Brown Sugar, raisin, vanilla, Mineraly, black pepper, oak spice.

Palate: Medium mouthfeel, Burnt Brown Sugar, slight banana, Black Pepper, Minerals, tart blueberries, grapes.

Finish: Medium length, slight raisin, Vanilla cream, black pepper, mineraly.

Rating: 6/10

This is a pretty interesting release. I have not had much in the way of wine finished American whiskey, but this has some cool flavors going on. But for the premium Barrell charges for their brand, I’m better off just buying scotch instead.
