Cheramie Queen’s Share Rum and Blanc
These rums come to us from Porchjam, a Louisana distillery who is making Cheramie which is a rum from fresh pressed sugar cane juice. This is the Blanc Rum and Queen’s Share Rum, which have different production methods. This queen’s share is made by distilling select tails cuts from Cheamie Blanc and New Make. The rum has a 36-hour fermentation process that happens once it arrives at the distillery from the Sugar Mill. Their rum is distilled on a pot still. The Blanc is distilled once on the pot still followed by a short column distillation with a dephlegmator running.
Here is an article from the American Rum Report done by Will Hookenga on the distillery and their rum (American Rum Report – Porchjam Distillery)

Both of these rums are good and very good. The Queens share is more brash and vegetal (whether due to higher proof or distillation technique I am not sure). Those prominent lemon and grass notes just pop out and make for a delicious drink, one that is nice neat or would do very well in a cocktail.
The Blanc is a bit more restrained in flavor, but it pops for 43%. It hits those briney lemon notes but with a touch, more fruit sweetness than the Queen’s Share. There is a hint of vegetal but its resting behind the other notes.
Both of these rums are very cool once you consider that they are American Fresh pressed cane juice and coming from Louisiana. Very good rum here and I am looking forward to trying more.
