New Riff Malted Rye Sherry Finished (6yr)

This rye comes to us from New Riff located in Covington, Kentucky. This is their 100% malted rye that has aged for 6 years in New American Oak before being finished in Oloroso and Pedro Ximenez Sherry Casks for an unknown period. This whiskey was then bottled at cask strength with no additives.

ABV: 56.35%

Nose: Pop of spice, mint, slight pine, Raisins, Vanilla, Peppery, Dark Chocolate.

Palate: Medium oily mouthfeel, Mint, Pine, Graham Cracker, Orange Peel, Black Pepper, Raisins, Cinnamon, Dark Chocolate.

Finish: Medium length finish, Mint, Pine Needle, Orange Peel, Black Pepper, Dark Chocolate.

Rating: 7/10

Was not sure what to expect, but these are very well balanced. This still has that pop of mint and rye spice but the fruit notes that are more forward with the sherry casks makes for an awesome inclusion. This is a great rye.
