Review #830; American Single Malt #14: Brickway Omaha 5yr Bottled in Bond Batch 1

This American Single Malt comes to us from Brickway Distillery located in Omaha, Nebraska. This Ameircan Single Malt has been aged for 5 years in new charred oak before being bottled in bond, following all the rules set forth by that act. (Not limited to bourbon as this makes a Single Malt and Rum I’ve not had that are Bottled in Bond)

ABV: 50%

Nose: Bready, Dark Chocolate, Vanilla, Chalk, Hay

Palate: Medium mouthfeel, Bready, Chalk, Hay, Milk Chocolate, Copper Tinge, Minerality

Finish: Medium length finish, Lemon Zest, Hay, Chocolate, Chalk

Rating: 6/10

Overall, a very good and impressive single malt showing. I don’t usually spring for Single Malt and new charred oak, but this executes it well. The sweeter flavors of the barrel, vanilla, tannins, some milk chocolate. The base malt peeks through with some breadiness, Lemon Zest, Hay, and a bit of that chalky minerality. A BiB single malt is cool as well. Though well executed, this doesn’t rise any higher than very good for me as New Charred Oak is far too a blunt instrument on single malt spirit (In my opinion)
