Review #818; Rum #224: Blackadder Hampden 14yr (2000)

This Hampden rum comes to us by way of Independent bottler Blackadder. This more premium brand is known for leaving the cask sediment in their bottles, their so-called Raw Casks. This Hampden was aged for 14 years in Europe before being bottled at cask strength with no filtering, and is likely the LROK Mark.

ABV: 57.4%

Nose: Charred Pineapple, Over Ripe Bannana, Allspice, Lemon Zest, Cement Glue, Grapefruit, Vanilla Chai, Cumin.

Palate: Medium oily Mouthfeel, Charred Pineapple, Allspice, Lemon Zest, Cement Glue, Grapefruit, Vanilla Chai, Cumin.

Finish: Medium length finish, Charred Pineapple, Lemon Zest, Cement Glue, Allspice, Grapefruit, Black Pepper.

Rating: 7/10

A great Hampden, as they often are for me. This one has good fruits, that nice weird cement glue note, and some spices that work well together. It doesn’t quite rise to the heights of some other Hampdens or Jamaican rum’s I’ve had, but its quite good. I do not take pricing into account in my review scores, but I would be remiss to not mention Blackadders really high prices.
