Review #817; Bourbon #172: Stellum Black Bourbon

This is a new brand from the folks at Barrell Craft Spirits. This is a blend of bourbons from undisclosed distilleries located in Indiana, Kentucky, and Tennessee. Released in December of 2021 it comes with No age statement, no mashbill, and a $100 price tag. It is an extension of the Stellum lineup, a sort of more premiumized version of Stellum Bourbon and Rye. Let’s see how they did.

ABV: 54.61%

Nose: Minerality, Black Pepper, Green Apple, Chalk, Vanilla, Orange Peel.

Palate: Medium mouthfeel, Black Pepper, Minerality, Orange Peel, Cinnamon, Green Apple.

Finish: Medium length finish. Black Pepper, Minerality, Orange Peel, Toffee.

Rating: 6/10

A very good well crafted bourbon. The fruits are nice, as is the classic vanilla pop that is there. The spices help to balance out against the sweeter notes and that minerality brings a nice change of pace. A very good offering from Stellum, though not one that lives up the price point for me, especially when its pricier than most Barrell Bourbon batches, and the likes of Armida and Seagrass.
