Review #620; Rum #114: Foursquare ECS Sagacity

This rum comes from the Foursquare distillery located on Barbados. This expression has been aged for 12 years as a combination of pot and column distillate and a blend of ex-bourbon and ex-madeira casks. This was released with no additives. Sagacity is a French term meaning “The Quality of being discerning, sound of judgement.”

ABV: 48%

Nose: Red Berries, dark chocolate, slight vanilla bean,

Palate: Medium mouthfeel. Dark chocolate, tannins, vanilla bean, red berries,

Finish: Short finish, dark chocolate, red berries, black tea, black pepper

Rating: 5/10

Overall this is just fine for me. The finish runs a bit short, and I find the flavors to be a bit simple and leaning a bit too sweet for me. The tannins really present themselves as a bitter agent in the finish and palate. I can see the appeal of this rum, but other Foursquare offerings fare better for me.
