Review #957; Rum #304: SBS Antigua 2015

SBS Antigua 2015

This bottling is a single barrel of rum from 1423 a Danish independent bottler. Of note this is my first rum from Antigua I have tried. This is a column distilled molasses rum that was aged for 6-7 years in ex-bourbon before being bottled at cask strength with no additives.

ABV: 64.9%

Nose: A mix of tropical fruits, grilled guava, pineapple, slight cement glue, vanilla chai

Palate: Thick oily mouthfeel, Passionfruit, Grilled Guava, Grilled Pineapple, Vanilla Chai, coffee grounds, cinnamon, mushroom

Finish: Longish finish, Coffee Grounds, Vanilla Chai, Grilled Over-Ripe Pineapple, Raspberry, Mango, Dark Chocolate, cinnamon, mushrooms

Rating: 9/10

I was not sure what to expect with this but man this just knocks it out of the park. The nose is a bit dececivng but that first sip you get smacked in the face with flavor. Coffee, Cinnamon, Chai, and all kinds of over-ripe fruits. The mouthfeel is thick and luscious and the finish hangs around for a bit. Proof is well integrated as well.
