Wray and Nephew The Parish Collection

Review #1054; Rum #382

Wray and Nephew Overproof is probably the most consumed rum on the island of Jamaica, and might be the most consumed unaged Jamaica overproof rum in the world. Given it’s stature it was surprising and cool to see them release something little special and limited. This bottle is the Parish Collection by J. Wray and Nephew, done in celebration of the 60th anniversary of the independence of Jamaica. Each bottles is dedicated to a parish of the country and comes with a fancy label, box, and a card certifying it as a collectors item.

5/10

I’m not sure what I expected from a 70% rum neat but its rough around the edges. The alcohol spikes a bit here and there and boy is it hot. A bit of water added brings out the banana note prominently and the pineapple. Ultimately, this is a fun product designed to celebrate Jamaican independence and the best use for it is to use it was you would regular Wray and Nephew over proof, Wray and Ting or Daiquiri it. For my money, this is going to make some fantastic daiquiris this summer.
