Review #1266; Rum #571
The Transcontinental Rum Line is a rum brand of La Maison Du Whisky and brought into the US as a partnership with La Maison & Velier. This rum was distilled from molasses, and is a blend of column and pot still distillate. The rum then aged for 5 years in an ex-bourbon barrel on the island of Barbados. It then went to Europe and aged for an addition year and was bottled with no additives.
Distillery: Foursquare
Bottler: La Maison Du Whisky
Region: Barbaods
Still: Column & Pot
ABV: 55%
Cask: Ex-Bourbon
Nose: Toasted Coconut, Vanilla, Cherry Cola, Black Pepper
Palate: Medium oily mouthfeel, Cherry Cola, Toasted Coconut, Vanilla, Dark chocolate, black pepper
Finish: Medium length finish, Cherry Cola, Toasted Coconut, Dark Chocolate, Vanilla, Sandalwood, Allspice
Damn, this is a great bottle of rum. I will admit, with the specs I just expected this to be a pretty good, slightly above average offering given its Foursquare in ex-bourbon at 6 years old. But, it really just pops a bit more with that cherry cola flavor to make it really enjoyable. Sometimes when I haven’t had Foursquare in a good long while I forget just how good it is. This is a good rum to have on hand to give to rum geeks and folks you want to introduce to the category. That classic toasted coconut, vanilla, and dark chocolate go with the unexpected cola flavor very well.
