The Rums of Mexico Caña Dura

This sample was provided to me by a producer, distributor, or some other industry source free-of-charge. No compensation, outside of the sample, was received and there were no strings attached.

Review #1443; Rum #742

Here we have a new project from PM sprits,The Rums of Mexico (MX Rums). From the same folks that brought you 5 Sentidos, Alambique Serrano, and Cañada, this new brand line sets out to explore traditional and modern cane spirits found in Mexcio. These spirits are often called locally aguardiente, cañita, chinguirito, cañazo, or ron.

This rum comes from Cosautlán de Carvajal, Veracrúz and is distilled by Marcos López. This rum comes from the most common cane varietal found in Cosautlán de Carvajal, Veracruz. This rum was distilled from fresh pressed juice from the Caña Dura cane on a five-plate continuous still made of stainless steel and copper. It was then bottled with no additives.

Crisp, fruity, and refreshing. This has a big note of that rain water notes that I love in rums. A nice bit of fruits and crisp cucumber help to keep it light with a bit of lemon too. This is a real winner for me and one that you can dissect or just sip and enjoy. A kind of classic unaged cane juice rum in my mind that leans into the minerality.
