Review #1441; Rum #740
Here we have a new project from PM sprits,The Rums of Mexico (MX Rums). From the same folks that brought you 5 Sentidos, Alambique Serrano, and Cañada, this new brand line sets out to explore traditional and modern cane spirits found in Mexcio. These spirits are often called locally aguardiente, cañita, chinguirito, cañazo, or ron.
This cane variety farmed in the district of Cosautlán de Carvajal, Veracruz, was produced by Marcos López. Marcos distilled this batch from fermented Cristalina “broth” – the local term for cane juice – with open flame on a 5-plate copper & stainless steel still made by his father. It was then bottled with no additives.in Europe for another 3 years. It was then bottled at cask strength with no additives for the USA market.

Not sure what I was expecting stepping into these new rums from Mexico but this first one is great. Lemongrass, fruits, spices, a nice hefty minerality and clay. Earthiness to bring it all together. A great and shining example of rum being made in Mexico that until now, I at least had no clue about.
