Review #1253; Rum #560
Here we have a bottling from Roaming Roads Spirits. Roaming Roads Spirits is a new independent bottler founded by Mike Gilmore, owner of Country Lane Liquor in Wyoming. . Mike is bringing his years of experience selling and tasting spirits to found Roaming Road, an independent bottler that will bottle single cask Rums, Cognacs, Armagnacs, and who knows what else going forward.
This first cask is a cask of rum from Jamaica. This rum was distilled from molasses, aged for 9 years in an Ex-Rum cask, and bottled at cask strength with no additives. Presumably, it was aged for most of that time in Europe
Distillery: Unknown
Bottler: Roaming Road Spirits
Region: Jamaica
Still: Pot
ABV: 66.6%
Nose: Grilled Pineapple, Black Pepper, Touch of Glue, Nutmeg, Mango
Palate: Thick oily mouthfeel, Glue, Grilled Pineapple, Black Pepper, Nutmeg, Lemon, Mango
Finish: Medium length finish, Glue, Grilled Pineapple, Vanilla, Black Pepper, Lemon
This is a great rum. It’s a classic mix of fruity and slight glue solvent notes with a bit of spice thrown into the mix. It drinks well below its proof as well. It takes water pretty well too, with those Pineapple and mango vanilla notes becoming more prominent. A real winner.
