Review #1335; Rum #640
Review #1338; Rum #642
This sample was provided to me by a producer, distributor, or some other industry source free-of-charge. No compensation, outside of the sample, was received and there were no strings attached.
This is a rum from Spain (distillery unknown) that was distilled from molasses on a column still that was aged for 17 years and aged in an ex-bourbon cask then a Costwold Malt Whiskey cask before being bottled at cask strength.
Distillery: Unknown
Bottler: Roaming Road
Region: Spain
Still: Column
ABV: 60.6%
Nose: Dark Chocolate, bit malty, Hay
Palate: Medium mouthfeel, Dark Chocolate, Hay, Malty
Finish: Short finish, Dark Chocolate, Black Pepper, Touch of Raspberry, Malty
Rating: 4/10
I think other folks would like this rum a lot more than me, but this just doesn’t do it for me. There isn’t much base spirit I feel like I can detect, and I am not a big fan of how powerful this malt flavor forms the backbone of the flavor expression for me. I was hoping for a little more depth and complexity. The flavor’s aren’t bad per se, but that heavy maltiness really doesn’t do it for me.
