Review #974; Rum #314: Riverset Rum Rye Finish Memphis Rum Club Selection

Riverset Rum Memphis Rum Club Selection

This rum comes to us from Venezuela, though the distillery it was sourced from is not known. This is a 2-year-old Venezuelan rum that was finished in a wet Riverset rye cask for 6 months before being bottled at cask strength with no additives.

ABV: 66.2%

Nose: Mint, Vanilla, Black Pepper, Toffee

Palate: Medium mouthfeel, Mint, Vanilla, Black Pepper, Toffee, Caramel

Finish: Short finish, brown sugar, Mint, Vanilla, Caramel

Rating: 4/10

This is not bad, but I feel like better is out there. I can see the appeal of this to the American Whisky drinking crowd, but its not really for me. This must have been one wet barrel because whatever rum character here was buried underneath the rye finish (and I am a fan of rye whiskey). Just overall not something I can get super jazzed up about. I know it’s a cheap price point on these, but there is better out there at that price point.
