Review #965: Scotch #211: Bruichladdich Bere Barley 9yr (2008)

Bruichladdich 2008 – Bere Barley

This is a bottling of single malt scotch from Bruichladdich that wild and interesting distillery located on Islay. This release from them is of their Bere Barley series. What sets this release apart from their other releases is their use of the grain, Bere Barley, which is an old variety that generates a lower yield than more modern and standard barley grain variety’s. This unpeated whisky was aged for 9 years in various ex-bourbon casks before being bottled at 50% with no coloring or additives.

This is very good. A very solid offering from Bruichladdich, hits some nice malty notes, a touch of sweetness, and some spices. Very hay forward for me (which is nice) with the spices and sweets helping to balance it out. Overall, a nice one from Bruichladdich .
