Review #962; American Single Malt #28: Colkegan Batch 01

Colkegan Batch 1

Colkegan is a brand under Santa Fe Spirits. It is a single malt created in Santa Fe New Mexico. This single malt was made by malting the barley and then drying it with mesquite smoke. This American Single Malt has been aged in 50% New Oak and 50% Ex-bourbon casks.

ABV: 46%

Nose: Nice BBQ smoked base, nuttiness, bready, lemon, vanilla

Palate: Medium mouthfeel, hay, bready, bbq smoke, lemon

Finish: Short finish, pop of smoke, lemon, shortbread, hay

Rating: 6/10

A very good American Single malt the heavy presence of the mesquite smoke is outstanding. It blend well with the other flavors as well, bready, lemony, a bit of vanilla sweetness. A great all around American single malt to just sip and enjoy. Enough depth here to keep you interested but can just be enjoyed hanging out on the porch too. Only real knock here is on the finish which I wish hung around longer.
