Review #951; American Single Malt #25: Lost Lantern Cedar Ridge 4yr (Sherried)

Lost Lantern Cedar Ridge Single Malt (Sherried)

This bottling comes to us from Lost Lantern an American independent bottler who bottles many different kinds of whiskey. However, the category that I am most interested in and the one they seem most interested in as well is American Single Malt. This bottling is an American single malt from Cedar Ridge. Cedar ridge is a distillery in Iowa that makes a variety of bourbons, ryes, single malt, and a few other spirit offerings as well.

This is a single cask that started out as 100% malted barley that was distilled and put into New American Oak for 2 years. After those 2 years it was transferred to a 500-liter Sherry butt from Jerez where it was matured for a further 2 years. With a total time of 4 years and 2 months of ageing, it was dumped and bottled at cask strength with no coloring added as well as no chill filtering.

Very Good. I’m a sucker for a sherry bomb and this checks those boxes. A bit simple, but hard to argue with it. Dark fruits, a bit of malt and nutmeg as the heavy spice. A bit pricey but that’s American Single Malt.
