Review #940; Scotch #207: Laphroaig Cairdeas 2022 Warehouse 1

Laphroaig 2022 Cairdeas Warehouse 1

This bottling comes to us from that famous distillery located on Islay in Scotland, Laphroaig. This is part of the yearly Cairdeas line which are limited edition expression that have something different each year. This years expression is a non-age stated Single malt that was aged entirely in first fill ex-bourbon casks (makers mark in this case) in Warehouse 1. Warehouse 1 is on Islay, which is different from most Laphroaig expressions due to the harsh climate of the island. Bottled with no coloring or additives.

ABV: 52.2%

Nose: Iodine, Brine, slight vanilla, Hay, Ash

Palate: Medium oily mouthfeel, Iodine, Vanilla, Brine, Ash, Black Pepper, Fall Vegetation, Lemon Zest, Sage

Finish: Medium length finish, sea salt, Iodine, Ash, Black Pepper, Vanilla, Lemon Zest, Sage

Rating: 7/10

Great, hits what I want in an ex-bourbon Laphroaig. Salinity, Ash, a bit of vanilla, lemon. Ex-bourbon Laphroaig is the best Laphroaig. This reminds me of a tamed down, more brine forward Laphroaig 10 CS.
