Review #928; Rum #287: Worthy Park 12yr (2018)

Worthy Park Estate 12yr

This is an official bottling of Worthy Park from that distillery of the same name in Jamaica. This rum was distilled in 2006 (their 2nd year of reopening) and bottled in 2018. The molasses was fermented for 30 hours, distilled on a pot still, and aged in ex-bourbon for 12 years in Jamaica before being bottled with no additives or chill filtering.

ABV: 56%

Nose: Black Tea, banana, vanilla cream, guava, passionfruit, Banana

Palate: Medium mouthfeel, black tea, passionfruit

Finish: Medium length finish, black tea, passionfruit, Black Pepper, Banana, Vanilla

Rating: 6/10

A very good rum. The oak structure from the age brings a nice savory backbone to the rum of black tea, pepper, and a lingering oak note. Fruit notes pop in and out as well with some faint spices to go with it. Overall a very good rum, thought not rising as high as some other Jamaican rum that I have had, perhaps a touch on the oaky side but only slightly.
