Review #926; Rum #285: Montebello Brut de Fut 10yr (2010)

Montebello Brut de Fut 10yr (2010)

This rhum comes to us from the island of Guadeloupe and was distilled at the Carrere distillery. Fresh cane was cut and pressed, the juice then being fermented and distilled on a column still. It was then aged for 7 years in ex-bourbon casks before being aged another 3 years in Cognac barrels. It was bottled at it’s natural cask strength in 2021.

ABV: 45.3%

Nose: Cinnamon, Raisin, Vanilla, Black pepper, sandalwood,

Palate: Lighter mouthfeel, Raisin, Cinnamon, Black Tea, Sandalwood, Black Pepper

Finish: Medium length finish, Star Anise, black tea, black pepper, oak spice

Rating: 5/10

Fine, just fine. The nose is quite nice with its fruit and spices all around, and the flavors are pretty good throughout. The knock for me is the oak, which just dominates everything. A fine rum, but not to my taste preferences.
