Review #915; Brandy #44: Version Francaise Domaine De Saoubis 2007

Version Francaise Domaine de Saoubis 2007

This comes to us from La Masion Du Whisky who created this line to focus on French spirits. This cask of Armagnac comes to us from Domaine de Saoubis. Maurce de Mandelaere uses organic practices on 10 hectacres of his vineyard. Aged for 15ish years and bottled with no additives, let us see how it stacks up against the whole line.

Disclosure: I received this set of samples from the Importers at La Masion & Velier for review.

ABV: 46.1%

Nose: Hay, Lemon Zest, Green Apple, Vanilla

Palate: Medium mouthfeel, Green Apple, Lemon Zest, Vanilla, Hay

Finish: Medium length finish, Hay, Vanilla, Green Apple, heavy bitter black tea.

Rating: 5/10

It’s fine. This is a bit younger than the others (though age isn’t a mark of quality to be clear). This has some strange notes for an Armagnac, ones I am not accustomed to. I am not sure if it’s a method of production process or youth in this case. That real bitter note on the finish brings it down for me. The other 4 in this set are all worth a buy, but I will not be seeking this one out.

1 | Disgusting | So bad I poured it out.

2 | Poor | I wouldn’t consume by choice.

3 | Bad | Multiple flaws.

4 | Sub-par | Not bad, but better exists.

5 | Good | Good, just fine.

6 | Very Good | A cut above.

7 | Great | Well above average

8 | Excellent | Really quite exceptional.

9 | Incredible | An all time favorite

10 | Perfect | Perfect
