Review #896; Bourbon #176: Down Home 8yr Double Oaked “Mash and Journey SiB” (Blind)

Down Home Double Oaked American Whiskey Single Barrel Select “Mash and Journey”

This bourbon comes to us from Down Home, who sourced this whiskey from MGP in Lawrenceburg and double oaked. Bottled by Whiskey Thief Distilling Co in Frankfort Kentucky. That is all I could find. Note I had this blind so keep that in mind reading my notes.

ABV: 60.5%

Nose:Spearmint, Minerality, Faint Green Apple, Bready

Palate: Lighter mouthfeel, Bready, Minerality, A bit tannic, Dry, Vegetal

Finish: Medium length finish, Bready, Minerality, Green Wood, Green Apple

Rating: 4/10 It’s not bad, but these sharp green wood notes take it down a few notches for me.

Guess: Rye, aged 4 years, 50-52% abv, high rye.

Reveal: 8yr double Oaked bourbon from MGP

Not really for me, the tannins are too pronounced for me. I can see why some folks would like this but overall its not for me.

1 | Disgusting | So bad I poured it out.

2 | Poor | I wouldn’t consume by choice.

3 | Bad | Multiple flaws.

4 | Sub-par | Not bad, but better exists.

5 | Good | Good, just fine.

6 | Very Good | A cut above.

7 | Great | Well above average

8 | Excellent | Really quite exceptional.

9 | Incredible | An all time favorite

10 | Perfect | Perfect
