Review #895; Rum #268: Savanna HERR 57 (Batch 1)

Savanna HERR 57 Batch 1

This rum comes to us from the Savanna distillery located on La Reunion island in the Indian Ocean. This rum, batch 1, was bottled in 2017. This is from a molasses based and was distilled on their Alembic Pot Still they keep tucked under the stairs. With an ester count of 423.4G/Hlap, 2300 bottles, and bottled at a proof of 57% this is sure to be an interesting one given the Habiation Velier bottling being my frame of reference before this.

ABV: 57%

Nose: Classic Juicy fruit / strawberry nose that just fills the room. Grapefruit peel, Apricot, faint minerality, over-ripe papaya

Palate: Medium oily mouthfeel, Juicy Fruit, Strawberry, Grapefruit juice, Apricot, Minerality, Over-Ripe Papaya, slight sea salt

Finish: Longer finish, Grapefruit juice, Juicy Fruit, Strawberry, Guava, Sea Salt, Minerality.

Rating: 8/10

No surprise, this stuff is fantastic. Super heavy fruits, nice minerality, and just a hint of spice. This stuff is so crushable and delicious. Super juicy and delicious, I need to have bottles of this on hand at all times for neat sipping and some of the best cocktails I’ve ever had. There is a reason this is in my top 3 distilleries of all time.

1 | Disgusting | So bad I poured it out.

2 | Poor | I wouldn’t consume by choice.

3 | Bad | Multiple flaws.

4 | Sub-par | Not bad, but better exists.

5 | Good | Good, just fine.

6 | Very Good | A cut above.

7 | Great | Well above average

8 | Excellent | Really quite exceptional.

9 | Incredible | An all time favorite

10 | Perfect | Perfect
