Review #870; Rum #250: Velier Papalin 7yr Jamaica

Velier Papalin 7yr

This bottling comes to us from dependent bottler Velier. This is a blend of two different rums, both 100% pot still and aged for 7 years at their distillery. After ageing for 7 years at Worthy Park and Hampden respectively these rums were blended together and bottled for this release.

ABV: 47%

Nose: Banana, Green Apple, Crème Brulee, Nutmeg, Guava, hint of Allspice.

Palate: Medium mouthfeel, Banana, Lemon Zest, Guava, Vanilla Cream, Nutmeg.

Finish: Medium length finish, Banana, Lemon Zest, Guava, Black Pepper, Nutmeg.

Rating: 7/10

This is simply a great blend of rums. I think the Worthy Park is touch heavier in influence than the Hampden but this is a delight to drink. It has enough of that Jamaican oomph and tropical fruits that you love in an aged rum from the island. However, this is not a complete and total funk bomb that would make it inaccessible. This is the style of rum to keep on hand introducing people to Jamaican rum, throwing in a glass and enjoying during a game, and has just enough going on to pull a few notes out if you are so inclined. What a great release.
