Background: This was a blind in rye series. I had this blind then was shown the bottle. Pikesville is a 6 year old rye from Heaven Hill that is a barely legal rye with a rye mashbill of 51% rye, 39% corn, and 10% malted barley.
This is a series that I will be posting my reviews and reveal from but no the overall results. A group of us did a big rye split where we samples over a month blind samples from each other where we dedicated whole bottles, set those scores into a google doc, then pronounced a winner after it was all over.
There was a non-participating member who made sure there were no double entries so lets kick this off.
Rye #5 (the samples are not in a sequential number order)
ABV: 55%
Nose: Spciy, corn sweetness, caramel, rye hint
Palate: Corn, sweet vanilla, oak,
Finish: Corn forward. Malty sweetness, oak
Rating: 5/10
Like rye 20 (Rye 20 in this series is a KC Rye SiB), but less heat and less flavor. Its ok
Per dollar basis, this performed well, and my notes make sense as it and the Rye 20 (which will be uploaded eventually) are both barely legal ryes.
