This is a cool older bottling I was able to try thanks to a local generous friend. I have little information on this particular bottle so I will share what little I was able to dig up. This bottling of Navy rum comes to us from Wood’s, a navy rum producer who bottles and sells navy rum to this day. This is no the modern bottling, with the estimated bottling date of this being the 1970’s. This rum is a blend of rums from Guyana and Trinidad, likely with color added.
ABV: 40%
Nose: Caramel, Slight Cocoa, Orange Peel, Mango, Metallic tinge.
Palate: Light mouthfeel, Caramel, Metallic, Guava
Finish: Short finish, Orange peel, Metallic, faint industrial, Caramel, brown sugar.
Rating: 4/10
Not bad. I can’t be sure on cork quality or storage (it was opened for me to try along with others). But it was a cool opportunity to try some Navy rum from the 1970’s. A bit more proof I think would have helped this bottling, but for what I assume was a budget friendly Navy rum that existed to throw in a rum and coke not bad all around.
