Review #864; Rum #247: Transcontinental Rum Line Guyana 19yr (2002)

This rum today comes to us by way of Transcontinental Rum Line, an independent bottler who is a brand of La Maison du Whisky. This is a single cask of rum selected by the Rochester Elite Barrel Pickers club in Rochester, New York. This Guyana rum was aged for 19 years in Europe in an ex-bourbon cask before being bottled at cask strength with no additives.

This particular single cask has the code of EN02KFM25. This would indicate that the rum was distilled on the Enmore still. However, the Marque on this cask, KFM, has a sizeable amount of rum enthusiast’s convinced that it is actually from the Versailles still. Shaun Caleb was asked and confirmed it was in fact the Enmore still, but made with a different process, which made it taste different (a no wash Enmore distillate is what he said).

I am no DDL expert, just trying to give the most information I can.

Really weird and tasty. The big vegetal and industrial notes work well somehow, the faint fruits balance it out, and the spices bring a nice touch. The oak helps round it out as well, an excellent choice by those who picked this cask.
