Review #862; Rum #246: Compagnie Des Indes Reunion (Savanna) 12yr (2008)

This bottling comes to us by way of Independent rum bottler Compagnie Des Indes. This rum from the Savanna distillery located on La Reunion island was aged for 10 years in an ex-Cognac barrel before being aged for another 2 years in an ex-Hampden cask. It was then bottled without Chill filtration.

ABV: 58.3%

Nose: Guava, Mango, Star Anise, Nutmeg, Allspice, Over-Ripe Banana.

Palate: Thick oily mouthfeel ,Guava, Over-ripe banana, allspice, nutmeg, toasted brown sugar, Vanilla cream.

Finish: Longer finish, Star Anise, Mango, over-ripe bananas, toasted brown sugar, coconut, nutmeg.

Rating: 8/10

Another excellent rum from Savanna. I’m not sure how much the 2 years in an ex-Hampden cask impacted the rum but the over-ripe fruit notes would suggest a fair amount. The spices and fruits are amazing in this in how they balance each other out. This is a real winner.
