Review #825; Rye #64: Wilderness Trail 4yr 10 month Single Barrel Rye “The Party Source Selection”

This rye comes to us by way of Wilderness Trail, a newer distillery located in Kentcuky. This rye was aged for 4 years and 10 months, bottled at cask strength, and has a mashbill of 56% rye, 33% corn, and 11 % malted barley. This was selected and sold by The Party Source, a large liquor store located in Covington Kentucky.

ABV: 55%

Nose: Spearmint, Pine Needles, Green Apple, Vanilla

Palate: Medium oily mouthfeel, Piney, Spearmint, Green Apple, Vanilla, Black Tea tea

Finish: Medium length finish, Spearmint, Green Apple, Vanilla, Black Tea

Rating: 6/10

This is a very good rye, especially once the age is taken into consideration. Spearmint, Vanilla, Black Tea, some Green Apple, and a hint of tobacco leaf balance it all out. There is no apparent youth here, and it hits what you want in a barely legal rye. The flavor is intense as well. All in all, a very good well-crafted rye from Wilderness Trail. I will need to grab myself a bottle in the future.
