Review #820; Rum #225: Chairman’s Reserve Master Select 15yr Port Cask Baytowne

This rum comes to us by way of St. Lucia distillers located on St. Lucia. Distilled in 2005 this is a blend of their John Dore 1 Pot Still and Vendome Pot Still at a 50/50 ratio. This blend was aged in ex-bourbon casks until 2008 before being reracked into port casks for the next 12 years. It was then selected by and bottled for Baytowne Wines and Spirits in Rochester New York.

ABV: 51%

Nose: Star Anise, Raspberry Jam, Fig Newton, Strawberry, Cocoa Nib, nutmeg, orange peel.

Palate: Thick oily mouthfeel, Star Anise, Raspberry Jam, Cocoa Nib, Nutmeg, faint copper tinge, lime Zest, orange peel.

Finish: Medium length finish, Raspberry Jam, Cocoa Nib, Nutmeg, Faint industrialness, Lime Zest, Cinnamon

Rating: 8/10

No surprises here, another excellent offering from SLD. Rich fruits, Star Anise, Spices, it all works well to create a harmonious rum that still has that wild industrial edge all around form the Vendome still. A wonderful marriage of flavors, I have yet to be disappointed by any Chairman’s pick I’ve tried.
