This is a single cask rum bottled by Rom Deluxe. This rum comes to us from La Reunion Island (likely Savanna distillery), purported to be the Grand Arome recipe, distilled on a column still, and aged for 8 years in ex-red wine casks in Europe before being bottled at cask strength.
ABV: 55.6%
Nose: Raspberry, Vanilla Cream, Nutmeg, Allspice, tobacco leaf, Cinnamon, Black Pepper
Palate: Medium oily mouthfeel, Raspberry, Vanilla Cream, Nutmeg, Allspice, Tobacco Leaf, toasted coconut
Finish: Medium length finish, Raspberry Jam, Black Pepper, Cinnamon, Allspice, Toasted Coconut
Rating: 7/10
If this is a grand arome from Savanna, it has been buried under this red wine cask but this is a great bottling. Loads of juicy fruits, spices, some savoriness and coconut. It isn’t super funky and weird but a well-executed wine aged Savanna. Compared to other aged Savanna’s I have had though this is missing the intensity of tropical ageing.
