Review #738; Rum #179: Hampden Great House (2021)

This bottling is the 2021 version of Hampdens now yearly Great House Release. This years vintage differs in that this is a 50/50 blend of their LFCH and <>H Marque. This is all aged in Jamaica at the distillery before being bottled with no additives.

ABV: 55%

Nose: A heavy blast of over-ripe tropical fruits. Banana, Grilled Pineapple, Mango, Guava. Slight Vanilla, Nutmeg, faint industrial notes.

Palate: Medium oily mouthfeel. That blast of fruits, Grilled Pineapple, Banana, Grilled Mango, faint industrial, Nutmeg, black pepper, slight vanilla, Star Anise.

Finish: Medium length finish, Grilled Pineapple, Black Pepper, Star Anise, industrialness, Vanilla, over-ripe banana.

Rating: 8/10

Another excellent addition to the Hampden and Great House line. This one is a bit raw and aggressive. It comes at you with pungent fruits and spices but doesn’t veer too out of control in doing so. Great depth and complexity add to it as well. Its more of the fruit and funky side compared to Great House 2020 and I love it for that.
