Review #732; Scotch #191: Daluaine 13yr (2006) SMWS 41.126 “Garden Bonfire Dram”

This has been aged in a New Oak heavy toasted / Medium Char puncheon for 10 year in ex-Oloroso butt before being finished for 3 years in New European Oak Heavy Toasted. It was then bottled at cask strength with no additives and was non-chill filtered.

ABV: 57.1%

Nose: Black Pepper, Tannins, Cardamom, Honey.

Palate: Thick oily mouthfeel, Raisins, Baking Spices, Cinnamon, Black Pepper, Honey, Tannins.

Finish: Medium length finish, Black Pepper, Tannins, Raisins.

Rating: 5/10

This is a good single malt. It has good fruits and spices as the backbone of the malt, but we have to talk about the New European Oak thing it has. This just smacks you in the faces with tannins and black pepper. I think if the finish had not been done to this, it would be fantastic but being that they smothered it with New Charred Oak before bottling.
