Review #730: Rum #174: Ron Pepon Anejo

This is an aged cane juice Ron from San Juan Artisan Distillers located in Puerto Rico. The cane for this Ron has been grown near the distillery, cut, and then double distilled on a copper pot still before being put into ex-bourbon barrels for ageing.

ABV: 43%

Nose: Vanilla Bean, Green Apple, Black Pepper, Raspberry, light vegetals.

Palate: Light mouthfeel, Vanilla, Black Pepper, Green Apple.

Finish: Short finish, Vanilla, Black Pepper, light vegetals.

Rating: 4/10

Overall, this has some decent flavors going on in it. However the oak has covered up some of the really nice notes the unaged version has going on. I once again call for a bit more proof on this brand even as a special release as I think they are making some good quality Ron at San Juan Artisan Distillery. I just think the unaged ron route is the tastiest route for them.
