Review #727; Rum #172: Mount Gay Andean Oak

This is a new release from the Barbados distillery of Mount Gay. A limited release, this rum was aged for 14 years in Barbados before being finished for 11 months in virgin Andean Oak casks. These casks came from trees located in the Colombian Andes.

ABV: 48%

Nose: Cherry, Black Pepper, Raspberries, Orange Peel, tannins

Palate: Medium lighter mouthfeel, Orange Peel, Star Anise, Black Pepper, Tannins

Finish: Short finish. Orange Peel, Star Anise, Raspberry, Milk Chocolate.

Rating: 6/10

This is a very good rum from Mount Gay. A bit heavy on the oak but in a good way, lots of fruits come through as well. Overall, if you are looking for a great gift bottle this is one that I would go for.

4 | Sub-par | Not bad, but better exists.

5 | Good | Good, just fine.

6 | Very Good | A cut above.

7 | Great | Well above average

8 | Excellent | Really quite exceptional.
