Review #722; Rum #167: Sugarfield Experimental Series Batch 5

This unaged rum comes to us from Sugarfield spirits based out of Gonzales Louisana. This rum series is Batch 5 in their “Experimental” series. This rum is being made from sugarcane grown and harvested from the Ascension Parish, Hand Crushed at the distillery, juiced into 19 brix, fermented with Lallemand RM Yest, then double distilled on a pot still in November and December of 2020.

ABV: 46%

Nose: Lemon Zest, Brine, Olive Oil, faint vanilla

Palate: Medium mouthfeel, Lemon, faint grass, Olive Oil, Brine, lemon zest

Finish: Medium length finish. Heavy Lemon Zest, Lime Juice, Olive Oil, Brine

Rating: 6/10

This is a very good rum. Made in America no less, this is an unaged cane juice rum of very good quality, which is not something I expected to find or taste. It seems like Sugarfield is doing some awesome experiments over there at Sugarfield and I hope they can keep it up. I have another batch of this to review but I would be more than happy to support them in the future. Citrus, some light spice and vanilla make for a good sipping experience and I bet these go great in the classic cocktails.
