Review #715; Rum #164: Rum Agricola Da Madeira

This is a single cask rum from Portugal that has been aged for 8 years in casks of some sort. To be honest that is all I could find but lets dive in!

ABV: 53.6%

Nose: Dark Chocolate, Blackberry, Lemon zest, Vegetalness, Black Tea,

Palate: Medium mouthfeel, Lemon Zest, Fresh cut grass, Black Tea, Brine, Earthiness

Finish: Medium length finish, Grassy, Lemon Zest, Black Tea, Brine,

Rating: 6/10

Overall, this is very good. It has good flavors in it, but I feel like its living two lives. In one life its this wonderful fresh pressed cane juice rum, filled with vegetalness, lemon zest, and brine that make it refreshing. In its other life its ageing component brings some fruit, black tea, and spices to the mix that try to round it out. This is a rum that cannot decide what it wants to be, to me its sitting in a spot where a few more years very well may make it slightly better, but barring that I would love to have an unaged high proof version of this that has never seen a barrel. But overall, its very good and something cool to see out of a country I have not had any rum from up until this point.
