Review #704; Rum #156: Mhoba High Ester (2019HE3)

This is a batch of Mhoba High Ester, an unaged agricole rum from the South African based distillery Mhoba. This pot still agricole is made from fresh pressed sugar cane juice and bottled at a high proof with no additives. This is the 3rd batch of Mhoba HE I have reviewed so lets see how it is.

Batch: 2019HE3

ABV: 66.2%

Nose: Big burst of savory flavors, Brine, Olive Oil, Lemon Grass, Fresh Cut Grass, Black Pepper,

Palate: Thick oily mouthfeel, Brine, Olive Oil, Lemon Zest, Grass, Black Pepper, minerality,

Finish: Medium length finish, Brine, Lemon Zest, Fresh Cut Grass, Black Pepper, faint cholorine, minerality

Rating: 8/10

Even across batches, Mhoba HE continues being an excellent rum, one of the best unaged rums I have had it. Bursting with savory flavors, brine, grass, and spices this makes for an incredible rum to sip neat and a joy in cocktails. I wish there was more across the world as they are truly making some incredible rum down there in Mhoba. (Selfishly I want way more of it in the US)
