Review #684; Bourbon #153: Russell’s Reserve 13yr

This limited edition offering comes to us by way of Wild Turkey Distillery. This is a 13 year old bourbon from them, bottled at barrel proof and with no chill filtering. Not much else to say, 13 year old BP Wild Turkey, let’s dive in and see how it is!

ABV: 57.4%

Nose: Dark Chocolate, Cherry, Tobacco Leaf, Tannins, Vanilla Cream

Palate: Thick oily mouthfeel, Cherry, Tobacco Leaf, Tannins, Black Pepper, Cinnamon

Finish: Long finish. Dry. Cherry, Tobacco Leaf, “Turkey Funk” Tannins, Black Pepper, Slight leather, Cinnamon

Rating: 8/10

I wasn’t sure what to expect but this blew me away. It’s up there with the Decades and 17 Year BiB as some of the best Wild Turkey limited releases. Thick mouthfeel, long finish depth of flavor, complexity and balance all shine on this journey of savoriness it takes you on. I was a bit worried of some potential over oaking but the oak is well integrated with the experience. Overall, I wish I had a whole bottle of this, as it is quite a fantastic release from Wild Turkey.
