Review #680; Scotch #183: Glenlossie 26yr (1992) SMWS 46.86 “Leather Wine-Skins & Flamenco Floorboards”

This bottling comes to us from Independent bottler the Scotch Malt Whiskey Society. This bottling comes to us form the Glenlossie distillery where it was aged for 26 years, 24 years in ex-bourbon then finished for 2 more years in a 2nd fill oloroso barrel before being bottled at cask strength with no additives. I still enjoy the novelty of trying drinks older than I (the opportunity to goes down every year) so let us dive in!

ABV: 53.5%

Nose: Bready, honey, cracked black pepper, faint orange peel, raisins, lavender, slight earthiness, milk-chocolate.

Palate: Medium oily mouthfeel, grape jelly, cracked black pepper, orange peel, raisins, milk chocolate

Finish: Medium length finish. Pop of pepper, orange peel, grape jelly, milk chocolate, faint earthiness, bready

Rating: 8/10

This is quite delicious, layered, and nuanced. Its flavors are well balanced and some of them subtle needing teasing out with a bit of airtime. The fruits are really pronounced while the more savory spices and earthy help to keep it from veering into overly sweet. An excellent scotch one that anyone would be happy to drink.
