This single cask rum comes to us from Destilleria Centro North, which correlates to the Santa Teresa distillery located in Venezuela. This is likely a blend of pot and column distillate that was then aged for 11 years in an ex-bourbon cask before being bottled at cask strength.
ABV: 62.5%
Nose: Caramel, black pepper, toasted brown sugar, cinnamon stick, allspice, toasted coconut
Palate: Medium oily mouthfeel, caramel, toasted brown sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, toasted coconut
Finish: Medium length finish. Caramel, crème Brulee, toasted coconut, nutmeg, cinnamon, black pepper
Rating: 7/10
Though not from the same distillery nor matching its legendary status to me, this evokes the XXX/2 in terms of fantastic quality rums from countries that tend to be known for dosage, coloring, solera etc. Deep rich flavors, spice, and good integration of barrel character make for a delicious and interesting experience. This is one I wish had grabbed while still available and wish we could get more of these fantastic offerings out of Venezuela.
