Review #677; Rum #145: Privateer “Rumming Head Start”

This is a bottle of rum from distiller Privateer that was selected by Baytowne Wine & Spirits. This single barrel was picked at 2 years and 2 months and aged an additional 2 months in the barrel before being bottled. Distilled by Maggie Campbell it was distilled on a pot still then through their continuous column still. Its of the Rich Fine Marque which was more of a Maggie and Peter thing than current operations. Bottled at barrel strength with no additives, let’s see how this one stacks up.

ABV: 54.8%

Nose: Big Savory notes, black pepper, floral, toasted coconut, grilled pineapple bark,

Palate: Medium mouthfeel, floralness, black pepper, toasted coconut, grilled pineapple bark, dark chocolate

Finish: Medium length finish. Black Pepper, lemon zest, toasted coconut, grilled pineapple bark, dark chocolate

Rating: 7/10

Overall, one of the unique Privateer Bottlings I have load. Big on the savory front with loads of spices, floralness, some toasted coconut and grilled notes that are tempered by dark chocolate and some Crème brûlée. A real big winner for me and still available for sale as it were.
