Review #655; Rum #132: Caroni 22yr (1998) Employee Ganesh “Buju” Ramgobie

This Caroni bottling comes from the limited Employee edition. This bottling was aged for 22 years in ex-bourbon barrels before being bottled at full proof. It’s always fun to get to try these Caroni’s so lets dive in.

ABV: 67%

Nose: Trademark diesel fuel note, motor oil, dark chocolate, mango, vanilla bean, black tea

Palate: Thick oily mouthfeel. Diesel fuel, dark chocolate, motor oil, industrial smoke, star anise, vanilla bean, black tea

Finish: Long finish. Star Anise, Diesel fuel, dark chocolate, motor oil, industrialness, vanilla, black tea

Rating: 8/10

A great bottling of Caroni. This hits all those things I love in a bottling with big industrial notes with just enough spices and other flavors to tie it all together. I know Caroni is quite divisive among rum fans but count me amongst the group that loves it. Give me more motor fuel and oil rum please.
