This is a bottling from Dom De Luxe of a still strength, unaged DOK. Coming in at a searing ABV and full of ester that clock in at 1600, this was released in a limited count of 150 bottles. Let us see if this fares better than the last still strength DOK I tasted.
ABV: 85.6%
Nose: Rubber, Over-ripe fruits, Pineapple, Mango, banana.
Palate: Light mouthfeel, searing heat, over-ripe fruits, grilled pineapple, mango, banana. Black pepper, ethanol.
Finish: Long, hot. Funky over-ripe fruits and spices.
Of note, I added water to this and the above review is when I tried it neat. With water this becomes more manageable, the nose opens up revealing more fruits, brown sugar, spices, black pepper, and toasted coconut that come out in the palate and finish as well. The searing heat is dialed back and this becomes much more enjoyable.
Overall, an interesting and fun bottling. At still strength, the best use for this is cooking as it is not enjoyable in any fashion. At lower proofs after dilution though, it can and does shine mainly as a cocktailing ingredient though it is still good neat. However, I still give the nod to the Aficionados DOK release that was proofed down to 69% as it retains the character and flavor without veering into the searing hot territory of this release.
My score is based on the neat tasting of this, though with some water it would go up 2-3 points if I scored based on that criteria.
